Summary of Major Scientific Accomplishments

20-24  Dielectric elastomer actuators – combination of hyperelastic elastomer structures with electrostatic forces. Actuation, sensing and refrigeration utilizing snap-through instability of inflatable natural rubber balloons. Ultrafast curvilinear resonant millimeter-scale elastomeric robots driven by Lorentz forces in an external magnetic field.

19-20  Optical trapping of magnetic skyrmions, theoretical description.

11-19  Active plasmonics – combination of plasmonic structures with gain medium. Electrodynamic description of a spaser with saturation. Optimization of spasing threshold. Radiative outcoupling and thermal effects in a spaser above threshold.

07-11  Giant deformation of dielectric elastomer actuators under conditions of constant charge (instead of voltage). Charge localization instability.

04-06  Theoretical description of focusing and transmission properties of single transparent dielectric spheres and their arrays. Its application to different types of laser material processing.

01-03  Theoretical description of dynamics and dry laser cleaning of nano-particles. Suggestions on resonant dry laser cleaning, humidity cleaning and cleaning with steep fronts.

99-00  Analytical consideration of spherical plume expansion into the ambient atmosphere in pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The model describes on the unified basis free adiabatic expansion -- spherical shock wave -- plume stopping transitions. Optimization of multiple-pulse laser ablation for pulsed laser deposition.

95-98  Development of volume thermal ablation models to explain peculiarities in polymer ablation as opposed to ablation of non-polymeric materials. Derivation of simplified equations for the surface and volume thermal ablation processes, which take into account arbitrary temporal dependence of laser pulse, thermal properties of the material and shielding of the laser radiation by ablation products.

93-94  Explanation and modeling of oscillations, discontinuous deposition and hysteresis with respect to the laser power and scanning velocity observed in laser direct writing from different gas phase precursors. Analysis of the growth of rods initiated by laser beam. Development of the fast algorithm for the calculation of temperature distributions in microprocessing which is dozens of times faster than conventional ones.

1993    Analytical modeling of a chain-ball model of an ion channel locker on the basis of diffusion in a potential field. The modeling of the switching between two conformations of a molecule as time-dependent behavior of Hopfield type neural network.

91-92  Investigation of temperature distribution in thermally thin deposit of arbitrary shape, formed as a result of laser pyrolytic decomposition of the precursors on insulating substrate, and computer modeling of laser direct writing on this basis.

89-90  Explanation and phenomenological description with computer simulation of spiral waves, observed in liquid layer of vanadium oxides during laser heating of vanadium. These waves are due to inhomogeneous distribution of surface tension coefficient in the plane of the layer. Investigation and computer modeling of oscillations, observed in cw-laser heating of metals due to gas phase diffusion limitation of oxygen supply and exothermic reaction of oxidation.

86-88  Theoretical description of traveling waves arising in chemically active gas or liquid mixture while irradiated with CW-laser beam, due to the difference in absorption of the constituents, their propagation and generation. Study of oscillations in inert gas mixture, illuminated with CW-laser radiation, due to the diffusion and temperature dependence of absorption.
